Hong Kong Children’s Hospital

Hong Kong Children’s Hospital (HKCH) is the largest Design and Construction building project to date from the Architectural Service Department and also the first specialist children medical center in Hong Kong. It is the tertiary referral center for complex, serious and rare pediatric cases requiring multi-disciplinary care. It will also pool together expertise to develop research and training regarding pediatric surgery and genetic diseases.

The 468 bed Hospital consists of two separate 11 storey towers and a common basement level with three bridge linkages interconnecting the towers. Tower A primarily houses clinical support services including an integrated rehabilitation center, main operating theatres, clinical and research laboratories, data center and education facilities. Tower B will be more patient-oriented with the provision of inpatient and ambulatory care services. The project provides world-class healthcare facilities and is the first hospital in Hong Kong to achieve Platinum BEAM Plus certification.

As this was a Design Build project, Krueger was intricately involved with the E&M design development and primary responsibility for the supply, install, testing and commissioning of the HVAC, Electrical, ELV, Potable and Flushing Water Plant and Building Management System. Cutting edge sustainability technologies were applied for the precision control of room temperature, humidity, pressure differential, noise, and air cleanliness the operating theatres, laboratories, pharmacy and isolation wards.
